Small Diamonds are Still Valuable

Small Diamonds are Still Valuable

They may be bigger, but... does that mean they are better?

When I got engaged, I was so excited about sharing my good news that I didn’t recognize the diamond on my engagement ring was small, compared to my peer who had also recently gotten engaged. She of course noticed and brought it to my attention, how much bigger her diamond was, than mine. As she continually flashed it in my face, I noticed how cloudy the diamond was...

Diamonds endure immense heat and pressure that result in their beautiful, rare, crystalline structure. Due to the way they are formed, no two diamonds are the same. They are very valuable and considered the hardest natural substance. The only thing that can scratch a diamond is another diamond. As a matter of fact, the word diamond is derived from the Greek word “adamas,” which means invincible or indestructible.

I think women are like diamonds. Many of us have endured great pain and pressure to become who we are today. No two of us are the same, but we are all valuable. We shine brightly... and at times our shine is dulled by life. Compared to diamonds we come in various shapes and sizes... our truest value is determined by our creator. We are much more than the natural eye can see...

About 2 months after the encounter with my peer, she came back to show me a new ring. When asked what happened to the other one, her response was “It wasn’t a diamond at it all, it was Cubic Zirconia”. Life is funny like that! We can’t get caught up in appearances, and things are not always as they seem. The Cubic Zirconia is made to look like a diamond without going through the process of what is required to become a diamond. Big or small appreciate the jewel God has created you to be. Shine, my sister... shine.
